Now Watch: I Switched to Google Photos After 5 Years of Using iCloud, I’ll Never Go Back When Apple announced iCloud+ at VVDC 2021, it revealed that paid iCloud tiers will get additional benefits like Private Relay support and Hide Me E -mail. Another added benefit with iCloud+ is the ability to set up a custom email domain for iCloud Mail.

The new personalized email feature, currently in beta, is something that iCloud Mail users like me have wanted for years. I’ll show you how to set it up in this handy guide.

There are many reasons why you might choose a custom email domain. For starters, having a business will make your business more legitimate. Most importantly, custom email domains allow you to “own” your email address, providing portability allowing you to transfer it between email hosts. If an email host is discontinued or their business practices don’t match mine, I can move it to any host I want whenever I want. I could even host it myself if I wanted to, but that’s an exercise for another day.

How To Set Up And Customize Icloud On Your Iphone, Ipad, And Mac

First, custom domains for iCloud Mail are still a beta feature, so they’re currently only available through beta.icloud.com. With that in mind, I don’t recommend hosting your custom domain with iCloud Mail for very important or mission-critical email addresses. Note that these are only Apple’s recommended settings. Advanced users can get specific DNS record settings based on their needs.

Email hosted on iCloud is also limited to only five domains and currently has no wildcard support. In other words, general information cannot be defined for emails sent to addresses that have not yet been defined.

The first thing you need to do before setting up a custom domain is to own a custom domain. If you already have a domain, you are already one step ahead of the game. If you don’t have a domain yet, it’s very easy to buy one from a domain registrar. I’ve used Hover for years and highly recommend it, but you can use a custom binder.

Once you have a custom domain, you can continue to set up iCloud email with your custom domain.

Step 3: On the Custom Domain page, select who will use the domain you want to add. Please choose

You are the only person using the domain and associated email addresses. If you want to give family members access to use the domain, select the appropriate email addresses

Step 4: Enter the domain you want to use with iCloud Mail and click Continue. In this sample tutorial I am using duckibenjamin.com which I purchased from Hover specifically for this tutorial.

Step 5: This guide shows you how to set up iCloud Mail with a new custom domain. Click Skip in the Add existing email addresses section and we’ll come back later and add email addresses to the domain.

. This will open a window listing all the DNS records you need to add to your domain registrar.

Step 7: Login to your domain registrar and select your custom domain. If you have any DNS records associated with the email, you can choose to remove them at this point.

Step 8: Add the listed DNS records to your domain registrar. You must add a total of five entries. The records you should include are:

Step 9: Once you have added all the required records to your domain registrar, click the Finish Setup button to confirm that your settings are correct. The changes may take a few minutes to propagate, so if you get an error message asking you to check your MX record or SPF, try again in a few minutes. If the error still occurs after a long time, check if you entered the records correctly.

If You Forgot Your Apple Id Email Address Or Phone Number

Step 10: After the DNS records are verified, you will receive a notification that your domain is ready to use with iCloud Mail. Click the Continue button to continue.

Step 11: Add an email address using the field we left in step 5. You need to make sure that your email address contains the newly configured custom domain. In my case, I added [email protected] Click Add Email Address to confirm.

Assuming you’re signed in to iCloud on your iOS devices and Macs, you should start getting notifications that your new email address is available for use with iMessages and FaceTime. If you’re not signed in to iCloud on your devices, do so now and make sure iCloud Mail is turned on .

In just a few minutes, you can buy a new domain and activate it in iCloud Mail. Of course, you don’t have to use iCloud Mail with your custom domain, you can use hosting from Google, FastMail or others. Whatever you decide to choose, I’m a big proponent of setting up a custom domain for yourself.
